The Very Best of Fun with Stock Photos

sp_059.jpgI've been doing Fun With Stock Photos for over a year now, and along the way, I've found some pretty spectacular examples of how weird and silly stock photos can be. People often ask me, "Sara, who are the people in the stock photos, and who actually takes these pictures?" My answer? Geniuses. Geniuses are in the photos, and geniuses take them. Companies across this great land have been able to use these brilliant stock photos to properly illustrate their PowerPoint presentations, marketing materials, pamphlets, billboards, and websites. Without them, we would have no idea that a businessman sometimes get angry, or that all women love to sit on their beds with laptops. Simply put, without stock photos, the world would feel cold and empty. That's why I've gathered all my favorites here for you to peruse - because let's be honest, that spreadsheet can finish itself. ENJOY!

Fun With Stock Photos: Graduation Edition

broke2.jpgIt's time once again for Fun With Stock Photos! This time, I searched our stock photo library with the term "GRADUATION." Naturally, because it's that time of year when college kids across the nation are celebrating the completion of their education. Now, after all the exams, papers, skipped classes, drunken parties, sorority initiations, creepy roommates, a capella concerts, and smelly dorm rooms, young graduates must go off into the world and find their way. But first, they must proclaim their achievement and stand proud with their classmates. That's what the graduation stock photo is all about: glassy-eyed optimism with a dash of smug pride. It's about high fives and thumbs up. It's about shiny polyester robes and ridiculous-looking square hats. Today, we celebrate the graduation stock photo. ENJOY!

As you know, I'm a huge fan of stock photos, and I like to add captions to them in my regular blog feature called Fun with Stock Photos. There's a certain quality to a picture that really gives it that "stock photo" feeling. Do you think you have what it takes to create a really authentic-looking stock photo? I want to see it! Perhaps you have a perfect angry businessman or couple breaking up photo. Maybe even a lady with a laptop on her bed. Whatever it is, send it in, and if I deem it Stock Photo worthy, I'll fun-ize it for you!!! For example, here's a picture submitted by my coworker, Erica Lowy:
